Brace Yourselves: A Babymetal Webseries Is Coming

I’m not going to lie: I’m a pretty big fan of the band Babymetal. This fusion of high-energy J-Pop with what is actually pretty hard metal seems like it was custom-made to appeal to me. The band is actually enjoying some well-earned popularity outside of Japan as well, with some of rock and metal’s luminaries being fans of the group, as well as performing their single “Gimme Chocolate” on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert this past April.

So, naturally, the group is teaming up with Blue Ribbon Content (Warner Brothers’ digital studio) to create a webseries.

The series follows the three teenagers (called Su-metal, Yuimetal, and Moametal) who are recruited by a god named Kitsune to save the world of heavy metal. from what I’ve read online, it sounds like the parts taking place in the real world will be live action, while the bits in the metal world being animated.

Personally, I think that this concept sounds 100% amazing, kind of like if Brütal Legend were a magical girl anime. I haven’t seen a release date so far, or where it will be streaming, but I will most likely be watching it whenever it does come out.

To get us all in the mood, here’s the aforementioned Late Show performance.
